Yesterday was a good day on the sap collecting front.

*Drumroll*

10 Gallons!

This brings our grand total up to 33 gallons collected so far.

Our holding buckets may not look pretty, but they are functional.

Up until last Saturday there was still snow on the deck around them to keep the sap nice and cold.

Clear as water.  That’s what we want to see.  (Those pieces of bark all get strained out before it gets boiled.)

Now I have 2 things that I would like to see happen by this Saturday:

1.  To collect at LEAST enough sap to get us to 60 gallons.  More would just be the icing on the cake and make me do the happy dance.

2.  All of the rest of the snow that is in our yard melted.  We don’t do the boiling close to the house, so not having to walk through snow all day long (and I do mean ALL DAY) would also invoke the happy dance.

I don’t see these as unrealistic possibilities.  The temps for the rest of the week will be in the upper 40s/low 50s with the possibility of some rain, so hey, it’s doable.

And.  AND.  If Mother Nature really loved me she would have Saturday be sunny for the boiling process (right now the Weather Channel is calling for a chance of rain).

For now I am staying optimistic about each one of these items.

Because, hey, who doesn’t like to do the happy dance!
