I feel so bad, truly I do.

I mean, I’ve been mentioning the Wedding of the Century for so long, and here we are 4 days after the event and I haven’t posted any pictures for you.

Let me explain.  I took over 450 pictures last weekend, and I’ve only managed to salvage a handful that are even worthy to post anywhere, most importantly here for all of you.

So I thought that I would let you know that I haven’t forgotten and let you see proof that indeed, my oldest daughter got married on Saturday, and she looked amazing!

Actually, they both look wonderful!

I may have shed a tear that day.  Maybe.

I promise that I will hunker down to editing the pics and get them up as soon as possible, but it may be a few days because literally overnight, it has become ricing season here in the Northwoods.

This is a very special time in the area, and Rick & I only have a small window to get out there and collect (which also involves parching and thrashing the rice afterward).  It’s a lot of hard work, but as my kids will tell you, it’s gooooood!!

Oh, and Rick wants to try and go to the North Shore this weekend with the camper.

Things will slow down this winter, right?

When you are trying to find a hotel that will take a cat, your options are limited.  So when I recognized a very common (read:  corporate chain) name in the business that offered this specific amenity, I was hoping for a little bit better than what was offered.

Sure, Rick and I have run into places like this before, but I have to rate this one at the top of the list of places not to stay.  (I will not post the name here, but if you want to know, just email me, and I’ll give it to ya, k?)

First off people, never trust the picture of the place from their website.  I’m sure you already know this, but they can tend to be a little too picture perfect.  And this one was way overrated. If our first (yes, I said first) room looked anything remotely close to this, I would have been happy.

The headboards looked like someone had scratched them, the curtains were falling apart and the faucet in the bathroom tub dripped.  For a split second, the Bates Motel flashed in my mind.

The deal breaker?  The air conditioner didn’t work.  Temperatures in Minnesota in late August tend to be a little warm which require some sort of cooling apparatus in hotel rooms, preferably in working order.

First trip to the front desk for Rick to see about changing rooms, which meant transporting a slightly stressed cat to another strange room in a strange building.

Lovely.

OK, room #2 seems to be a step up!  A/C works and it has a decor and cleanliness that is a slightly better.  OK Rick, move everything from the car up the steps to the second floor (which takes 4 trips) and we are settled in.  Kinda.  The key cards seem to have a “one time only” use to them.

Off to the front desk for Rick (trip #2 if you’re keeping track).

By now Nichole and the girls get checked in and pop in to say “Hi”.  Nichole kneels down on the floor to look for Calie (who is under the bed freaking out) and announces that the A/C unit is dripping water and the carpet is wet.

Actually, it is soaked.

Well now, that isn’t good.

Poor Rick has to make a third trip to the front desk and request a different room again.  By this time he’s a tad irked, and I don’t blame him.  We’ve been on the road for 3 hours, hot, sweaty, and tired with a long evening ahead of us.  Give us a break, hotel Gods!

He returns with yet another set of room card keys, informing me that this is our last shot since there are no more rooms available to us.

Haul kitty (and the rest of our stuff) to room #3  and pray for the best.

A/C?  Working.

A/C leaking?  Negative.

Double beds?  Negative.  One King.

Crap!  We needed that extra bed for our grandson, Brayden.  Trip #4 to the front desk for Rick to see about getting a rollaway.

In the end, the hotel ended up giving us a discount on the room and Calie got to stay for free.

So, was there anything remotely positive about the hotel?

I’m glad you asked.  The one thing that was a pleasant surprise was that there were no problems with their wi-fi.  That would have been an official deal breaker.

Oh, and their continental breakfast was actually very good.

If only they would take that kind of effort and use it on their rooms.

Well, we made the trip to the big city and back, and Calie fared pretty well.

“OK, you can just let me off here.”

“Mom,  I can has Cheezburger?”

“I’ll take over in case Dad gets tired.”

“For a small car, the back seat is pretty roomy.”

“Ahhh… a comfy bed and the remote control.  I’m all set!”

I was getting a little worried about half way to the city because she was getting a little stressed, but she eventually calmed down enough to grab a catnap before we got to the hotel.

Which was a good thing, because there were a few adjustments that had to be made when we got there.

Stay tuned for that episode.

First off…

Happy Birthday to my beautiful, wonderful, amazing MIL, Georgia!  I’m so glad that she is a part of my life and I love her to pieces (as if you couldn’t tell)

I hope you had a wonderful day, beautiful lady, you certainly deserved it!

***********************************************************************************

And secondly, you won’t be seeing me for a few day because we are headed to the big city for the Wedding of the Century.

Yep, the 2 year engagement is finally gonna end with Christine and Erik gettin’ hitched on Saturday afternoon.

I may have mentioned this a few hundred times.

Oh, and Calie’s big adventure awaits too with her 3 hour car trip.  I’m hoping that she handles it well, so keep good thoughts goin’ for her, OK?

Have a great weekend everyone!

After so many years of drought, I’m really glad that we were able to get rain this summer.

But, it’s getting a little out of hand, Mother Nature.

No, no, I’m not complaining (much), it’s just that it’s not the nice, pleasant rain that I would prefer to get.  It’s the torrential downpours that are getting a little old.

Yes, we need to replenish what we lost over those few years of less-than sufficient moisture.  I understand that and I welcome it.  It’s just that I’m sick of my yard turning into a lake every few days.

Heck, I couldn’t even get into my garden tonight without a boat!

But as with all things, I have to remember the calm after those storms. Which, by the way, are quite beautiful up here in the Northwoods.

So, Mother Nature, can we hold off on the thunder bummers on Saturday?  You know, so the weather will be as beautiful as the wedding will be?

Thanks for your consideration.

Your friend,

The Mother of the Bride.
