Conversation between Rick & I the other night:

Rick:  Since we’re talking about spending money, I spent some today.

Me:  OK.

Rick:  Remember when I had Gary & Chris over to the house on Sunday to look at taking down the trees in the yard.

Me:  Yeah.

Rick:  Well,  I told them about a sawmill that Harbor Freight had on sale.

Me:  ……………

Rick:  Well, Chris and his wife came in the shop today and she had a coupon for 20 percent off anything from Harbor Freight.  I didn’t think they would honor it because the sawmill is already a great deal.

Me:  ……………

Rick:  Well, they took it.  And I bought the sawmill.

Me:  Um honey, you were supposed to buy us a new lawnmower.

*Sigh*

For Christmas my husband got me a Smartphone.  Now I was perfectly happy with my old phone that was no frills and had a qwerky keyboard that slid out so I could text.

But I had asked him not too long ago how much the ones cost at his store, and I might have even said something along the lines that I’d be interested in buying one someday.

I really have to be careful about what I say around that man.

So here I was totally blown away when I got the phone from him, and perhaps a little frightened because now I had to learn to use the damn thing.  (I can’t even figure out how to work the TV in the livingroom.)

Luckily, Rick got it all set up for me and even dealt with my current cell phone carrier to switch my service over.  (Seriously… I love the man!)

Next came the act of actually using the thing.

First I had to get used to having a touch screen.  Then came the real training:  Apps.  I’ve never used them before because, well never had to.  Luckily Nichole was here and patiently (with a few stifled giggles) schooled me on the ins and outs of the current cellular world that we live in.

I felt like a 2-year-old.

I’ve had the phone for about a month now, and I think I’m finally getting the hang of it.  Actually, I love it.

And I think I’ve finally figured out why they call it a Smartphone.  Not only does the texting application graciously give you a list of words to choose from so you don’t have to waste time typing everything out, it also wants to correct any words that it’s sure you meant in your message, even it you don’t want it to.

I’m on the bandwagon with all those people that hate autocorrect, even if it can be quite comical in the end.

Oh, and apparently I’m bilingual.  I’m not sure what happened, but last week all of my texts were either autocorrecting my messages or giving me the list of word choices in some foreign language that I’m not familiar with.

Somehow (thankfully) it corrected itself.

Although it might have been funny to send them anyway and see what kind of response I got.  Let’s see if it’s smart enough to try it again.

The start of the new year brings the opening for nominations for the 13th Annual Weblog Awards (aka Bloggies).

2013 Bloggies

Each year blogs from all over the interwebs are judged by their peers in different categories hoping to be crowned best of the best in their area.  You’ve got sports writers, photographers, foodies and Mommy bloggers that pour their hearts and souls into providing entertainment and information to the masses every day.

So here’s the deal:  hop on over to the site and place your nomination for your favorite blogs (which I hope that I am one of).  Now I say “blogs”, as in plural, because you must nominate 3 in your categorie(s) of choice.  If your having problems picking someone else besides me *hint, hint*, take a gander at my faves on the right side of my blog or look through the previous year’s nominees and I’m sure you’ll find lots of choices.  Heck, I’m sure you’ll discover quite a few that you will want to add to your favorites to follow on a daily basis!

Last year I didn’t give you much notification about this award, so this time around I’m hitting the campaign trail early.  And since there are so many categories I’d like to suggest just one for us to all use to just maybe get me into the finalists this year:  Best-Kept Secret Weblog.

Please make sure that you read the rules and confirm your nomination from the email* you will receive from them (or your vote won’t count and we’ll all be really sad).  Oh, and make sure to check the box to be chosen for the panel that picks the finalists!

OK, get out there and vote, and make sure to spread the word on Facebook, Twitter and all those other social media sites that you use!

*Don’t worry, you will not receive any unwanted emails from doing this.
