After enjoying several days this week with above normal temperatures (by which I mean the upper 40s), it was only a matter of time before reality reared it’s head and reminded me it is still winter… technically.

Now I guess we have this to look forward to.

The Weather Channel currently has this information available for my area:

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS: THE POTENTIAL EXISTS FOR ACCUMULATIONS OF SIX INCHES OR MORE. MOST OF THE SNOW WILL FALL ON SUNDAY INTO EARLY SUNDAY EVENING.

* WINDS AND VISIBILITY: GUSTY EAST TO NORTHEAST WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO DEVELOP BY SUNDAY… ESPECIALLY AROUND LAKE SUPERIOR. BLOWING AND DRIFTING WILL DEVELOP AS THE SNOW STARTS TO PILE UP. VISIBILITIES IN BOTH BLOWING AND FALLING SNOW WILL DROP TO A QUARTER MILE IN SPOTS.

* MAIN IMPACT: SNOW COVERED AND SLIPPERY ROADS ALONG WITH LOW VISIBILITIES.

Oh joy.

I will now return to my previous thoughts of sunny days with highs in the 80s.

Due to many factors, I have very dry skin, and winter doesn’t help it any.

A couple years ago, I was talking with my dear friend Patty (who, by the way, is a great source of information for just about anything holistic) about this subject and she suggested a very simple answer:  Vitamin E.

Looks harmless, yes?  But what a true marvel it is!

This little gem is great for many reasons, one of which is healthy heart function.

But for me, I puncture one of these babies open and smother its liquid on my face, rub it in real good, and dab it off for smooth, moisturized skin!

Another bonus:  It’s affordable and all natural!! Need I say more?  Why spend a ton of money on expensive creams that have who-knows-what in it when this works (in my opinion) better!! Sure, I use another lotion in the mornings (all natural, of course), but at night before I go to bed this is part of my routine.  I even saw a product in the store the other week that took this too a whole new level.  You can buy just the liquid!!

Sorry, got a little excited there.  But really, give it a try for your dry skin, especially your face, I guarantee you won’t be sorry.

First off, I just need to get this out in the open:  Scales are evil.

There, I said it.  I do not have to go into details (my daughters know my reasons for this).

OK, moving on.

Yesterday was not a good day for my computer.  It has been having issues for a while now, but not anything that I couldn’t get past.  Until last night when it decided that it had had enough and needed to go to the Doctor, aka Rick.

My wonderful husband took the poor patient into his shop today and brought it back good as new tonight.

Along with another little surprise.

No, this is not a belated Valentine’s gift for me.  This is bought for him, and him alone.  I gave him the gift of stepping on it once to show him that I weighed more than air, and he was happy.

My feet will never touch it again, I can promise you that.

Yes, we truly live in a technological world when you have to read the directions on how to use a scale.  Oh, but this is no ordinary scale.  You get the pleasure of entering your age, sex and height and then it politely calculates your body fat and body water to add insult to injury in addition to your weight.

But first you have to remove your socks and wet your feet because it needs to send a “slight” electrical impulse through your body to get that information.

This can be programmed for up to 10 people that want to torture themselves with this devise.  So just select your “number” to bring up your information…

…and hop on for the thrill of a lifetime!

There were 2 things that I made perfectly clear that I would not allow in this house:  a scale and a gun.  At least I can’t  hurt anyone with this thing unless I throw it at them.

Let’s see how long it takes until I catch Thor taking a nap on it in the summer because it is nice and cool.  On second thought, Thor is bigger than the scale, so that idea is out.

It was a very nice Valentine’s Day.

I went to town to purchase Rick’s gifts only to find the store that I had planned to shop in was gone.

It is not longer the shop that i wanted, but a very nice mercantile that sells a HUGE amount of cooking supplies and accessories (and now that the shock has worn off, I will definitely be revisiting that store!).

Fortunately for me, there was another store just up the block that carried just what I needed.

So I got everything home and proceeded to wrap up the gifts in a nice little package that says “I Love You.”

So what do you get a guy that is a computer geek and loves playing with power tools?

You go right to the heart…

…Green Bay Packer Superbowl memorabilia, what else!

Rick & I were both born and raised in Minnesota, and after we got married I taught him all there is to know about football, particularly while we watched my favorite team, the Minnesota Vikings.

After he gains all of this wonderful knowledge, he thinks that it is only fair that since we live in Wisconsin, that he should be a Packer backer.  I have to tell you, this can be very interesting around our house during football season, but we keep it all fun.

I have to tell you that he was quite happy to get that coffee mug and hat!

So, to make it the perfect night (and being the wonderful wife that I am), I grilled steaks and potatoes on the grill for his Valentine’s Day supper, and I even made his most favorite vegetable:  corn.

Yes, it doesn’t take much to make him happy, just some Packer stuff… and corn.

What a difference a week makes!

Last week we had another taste of arctic weather, with highs in the teens and lows minus double digits.

I went outside last week and decided to get a few snapshots of winter before it was gone.

This is the end of one of our wood piles last week.  About a foot of snow draped across the top of it…

… and today, after temps in the forties yesterday, we lost a significant amount.

What a difference a day makes!  We will bask in temperatures in the 30’s this week, knowing that there is only another month left until spring.

At which time we will probably get dumped on with snow.

But hey, that’s life in the Northwoods!!
