I’m no stranger to bugs.

I mean, the annoying, biting kind that you have to slather repellent on in order to enjoy the great outdoors in Wisconsin.

Gnats, mosquitoes and horseflies are a constant annoyance and are actually expected during the warm months up here.

But the invasion of these little f*#%ers the last 4 days are enough to drive even the most hardened Wisconsinite over the edge.

They are EVERYWHERE!

Well, I take that back.  According to a reliable source, they are exclusive to the lake that is just north of our house.

Yippee!

Not.

The weird thing is, I’ve never seen this type of bug before.  It’s like a mutant cross between an immature fly and a mosquito.

And they bite!

Needless to say, planting my gardens yesterday was a challenge trying to keep these things off me because I didn’t want to take the time to sift through the attic of the garage for the bug spray.

I’m told that they’re in the “dying” stage, so they aren’t expected to be around much longer.

Which is certainly good news considering they won’t have to compete with the mosquitoes for my blood.

  1. Whoa, those things are freaky looking! Hopefully it’s true that they’re in the dying stage!

  2. Didn’t see a one of them when I was outside today. Now the mosquitoes, on the other hand, are a different story…
